Managing Spam

When you select the Send/Receive Email buttons or Actions | Transmit Email Menu actions to receive email messages for your email accounts, orchidmedia will download your messages and store them in the Junk mail folder, or Inbox folder.   It will only store messages it receives in the Inbox folder, if the message has been sent from a person in your contact folders.  This ensures that any unwanted messages do not appear in your Inbox folder.

You can empty the contents of the Junk mail folder without reading the messages, selecting the Junk Mail Folder in the navigation panel, and clicking the right button on the mouse to display the folder pop-up menu. On the pop-up menu, select the Empty folder option to delete the messages in the Junk Mail Folder.

The software will automatically send and receive email messages based on the duration given in User Preferences.

Beware of Web email

As the Preview Panel used with the HTML button displays messages as a web page, you need to know that some email messages have been known to contain or reference computer viruses.  Computer viruses are software programs or scripts designed to harm your computer or to extract personal information. We recommend that you use anti-virus software on your computer with orchidmedia, which intercepts and reads email messages for viruses.

Further, you should use the display of HTML email messages with caution, as the anti-virus software may not search your email messages for external HTML Links.  If the HTML email message contains a reference to an external resource such as an image/photo, orchidmedia can download the message to display it on the screen.  If that reference leads to a file containing a virus, you could unknowingly download a virus onto the computer.  We recommend that you only use the HTML option for email messages from known contacts or companies who you have subscribed to receive email messages.  You can stop the display/download of any external references to files in an email message, by selecting the Desktop | Work Offline Menu action located on the menu bar, this effectively turns off the web browser features of orchidmedia:-

Beware of Spam

The majority of spam email messages are sent using false names, and false companies, or they pretend to come from an existing person or company.  This practise makes it difficult for your internet provider or email service provider to distinguish spam messages from genuine messages, and so you should be wary of receiving any unsolicited email.
