In addition to the Add Clips function, you can scan your computer for Video files to add to the Video Library using the Scan button in the Video Toolbar, or the Actions | Scan menu action from the menu bar.
When you select the Scan action, the Scan Clips Window displays on the screen, as shown in the the following example:-

Scan Clips Window
1. Path View - navigate through the computer's drives and folders displayed in the File view to find the starting point for the File Scan. This is different from the Add Clips function, as you are selecting a File Folder or Disk Drive, and not individual files.
2. Path To Scan - selections made in the path view are shown in the Path to Scan Field, and you can type the Path directly in the field provided.
3. Include Subfolders - click on the Include Subfolders check box, if you wish to scan all the files found in sub-folders stored under the selected drive or folder in (2).
3. Media File Filter - the software can read and display many Media file types. The Media File Filter allows you to select a specific type of Video file to search for from the drop down list of types displayed, or you can filter for all the supported Media file types.
4. Destination Folder - select the destination Video folder in orchidmedia for the Video files found by the scan. The destination folder will be the current folder in the Video View, unless you select another folder from the drop down list provided.
5. Import Options - You can choose to add Video files to orchidmedia folders in three different ways. If you want to add the Video files to orchidmedia's secure storage system, you can select the "Add selection to Library" option. This option will take a copy of the selected files and add the files to it's storage system. If you want to add the selected files to the storage system, and permanently remove them their current location on the computer select the "Add and Remove from source" option. Finally, you can select to add a reference to the location of the selected files using the "Scan selection only" option. With the "Scan Selection only" option, the software creates a record in the destination folder of the location of the file, rather than creating and/or removing the original file.
Reference records in orchidmedia can be regarded as the same as File shortcuts in the Windows operating system. If you delete a referenced file in orchidmedia, it does not delete the original file. The Scanning selection option is faster to perform than adding the physical files into secure storage.
PLEASE NOTE: if you select the "Add and Remove from source" option, and you choose to scan a disk drive or a root folder on the computer, you may remove files from folders which are required for other software or the Windows operating system to run correctly. We strongly recommend that you select specific folders to scan which you know contain your own media files, or select one of the other two options "Add selection to library" or "Scan Selection only".
7. Cancel - click on the Cancel button provided to cancel the Scan Clips operation, close the Scan Clips Window and return to the Video View.
8. Select - click on the Select button to perform the Scan Clips operation with the selected files. The software displays an alert window with the progress of the operation at the right hand bottom of the screen. You can cancel the operation from the alert window by selecting the (X) Cancel button.
