Exchange Process

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The final page of the IM Contact Manager manages the exchange of contacts and group information between Instant Messaging Servers and orchidmedia.  If you have removed contacts in the previous pages of the IM Contact Manager, then you can use the exchange page to remove the contacts from your Instant Messaging accounts.

New contacts created in orchidmedia with Instant Messaging accounts are also shown as items to exchange on the exchange page, so that you can add contacts to your Instant Messaging accounts.  Until the Instant messaging servers are made aware of the new contacts, you cannot contact them.

Adding a new contact to a instant messaging account does not automatically give you access to the person.  They will receive notification of your request to contact them, when they next connect, and at that time, they can choose whether to add you to their allowed list of contacts or they can choose to add you to their blocked list of contacts.

1. Items to exchange - based on the actions carried out on unknown groups and contacts on the previous page, and any changes made to contacts with instant messaging accounts in orchidmedia, the software creates a list of items to exchange under (1).  The items provide information on the action to be carried out on the Instant Messaging servers, such as, Add "Account Name", Delete "Account Name", Change " Account Name". Tick the items you would like to perform on the Instant Messaging Servers from the displayed list.

2. Exchange - click the Exchange button to perform the items ticked above. This may take a few moments to complete, so wait until the finished message appears before selecting the Ok button to exit the IM Contact Manager.

You can exit the IM Contact Manager, at any time by selecting the OK button.
