From the User Preferences Window, you can change the Browser preferences for the User by selecting the Browser Settings option displayed to the left of the window.  The software currently uses Internet Explorer to provide integrated web browsing.  The Browser settings provide additional preferences to Internet Explorer settings to enhance your web browsing experience.

The Browser Preferences Page looks like this:-

Browser Preferences Page

1. Default Home Page: this is the first web page displayed when you open the web browser. You can type any valid web page address to set this to your home page.  Selecting the Home button in the Web Browser will open this web page address.

2. Start Offline: Tick this box to start orchidmedia without starting the web browser. If this is blank, the software will connect the web browser to the internet when it starts. Information such as HTML email messages which reference content on the internet will be displayed correctly when the web browser is connected to the internet.

3. Show Bookmarks: Tick this box, if you want your bookmark folders displayed to the left of the web browser, when the software starts. Leave this blank to maximize the horizontal width of the browser within orchidmedia.

4. Open all with New Tab: Tick this box, if you want to turn on the New Tab Page option, when orchidmedia starts. When the New Tab Page option is on in the web browser, any new links or web pages are opened in a new Tab page. Leave this blank to navigate to new links or web pages in one Tab Page.

5. Block Popups: We recommend that this box is ticked on, to ensure that you do not receive malicious or mal-formed Popup windows within the web browser. There are web sites which can disable or hamper your ability to leave their site by displaying a pop-up window over the entire size of the desktop screen, or by displaying a never ending number of pop-up windows.  Only turn the Block Popup button off, when you know the site is owned by a reputable company and it is required to perform a file download or to enter a password for instance.

6. Search Query: Select the default Search engine to use to search for web content from the drop down list provided. You can add further search engines in the Web Browser, if you can not see your site here.

7. Clear Internet Cache: Tick this box to remove all cookies, scripts and temporary files from the Internet Explorer Cache folder, when you exit orchidmedia Desktop Companion.  This is a useful security measure to ensure that your browsing history, passwords and personal information can not be read by another person, when you next browse the internet.

8. Clear Internet History: Tick this box to remove Internet Explorer History from the computer, when you exit orchidmedia Desktop Companion.  Internet Explorer History provides a list of every page you visit for a period defined in the Internet Explorer Settings, usually 20 Days.  If you don't want people to know where you have been on the internet, you can remove the list using this option.

9. Clear Internet Passwords: Tick this box to remove information from the computer which you have entered into a form on a web site, when you exit orchidmedia Desktop Companion.  As this information can include personal information, such as your passwords, email and mail address, and credit card details, we strongly recommend that you turn this option on.

10. IE Settings: you can access Internet Explorer Settings directly from the IE Settings button, to maintain more advanced settings for security and your options for display of web content.  The software will use the Internet Explorer settings to determine web browser use inside orchidmedia.
